Don’t you get lonely?

It’s the top question people ask me when they find out I travel alone. Some people admire my boldness, while others regard me with pity. What must it be like to be alone 90% of the time — especially in corners of the world where I know no one?

So…do I get lonely?

The answer may surprise you.

No, I don’t.

I’m an only child and prefer my own company nine times out of 10. Nevertheless, community is important to me, and I’ve steadily built mine over the years.
