I’ve always been a bit of a tomboy. As a child, I named my helicopters and trucks instead of dolls. I wanted to climb trees and ride bicycles. Playing dress up and wearing heels didn’t appeal to me.
Consequently, most of my friends were guys.
As I’ve grown older, though, I’ve recognized that my guy friends are great for sharing my hobbies. But when it comes to deep connections and communication, it’s my lady friends who provide that. There are some exceptions, but you know what they say about exceptions confirming the rule.
That made women the more appealing demographic for connecting in a new place. It also eliminated the likelihood of some guy misinterpreting my bid for friendship as romantic interest.
