Last summer, I shared general tips on how to stay safe in Mexico. They covered some of the basics anyone should know before heading south of the border. But if you plan to head out into remote areas or enjoy Mexico’s rugged terrain, you should take precautions specifically designed for those trips.

I can’t guarantee anyone’s safety in Mexico or anywhere else, for that matter. Still, you might learn from some precautions I took when adventuring in Mexico.

1. Ask the locals.

In last week’s post, I recommended asking the locals for advice on where to go and how to get there. However, there are far more specific questions you can ask to ensure your safety. Consider these examples that I’ve used myself:
