The furthest distance I have ever traveled in a short period is from Georgia to Nevada in three days. My dad and I split the driving time, and we towed my new-to-me 4,000 lb home the entire way. My dad had not towed in several years, and I had never taken the rig on the highway before.
The beauty mesmerized us as we drove through New Mexico, and we stopped looking at the gas gauge. By the time we checked again, we were down to a quarter tank and on a lonely, rural stretch of road. Thankfully, we at least had phone service. I towed on empty for 15 miles, but we made it!
If it has never happened to you before, let me tell you now. Towing on empty while looking for a gas station in the middle of nowhere is not for the faint of heart!
