I’m a germophobe with an overactive immune system.

Bacteria, viruses…I want nothing to do with them. I’m that person who walks around with hand sanitizer, hates shaking people’s hands, and generally will not share food or utensils. And that was before the pandemic!

Needless to say, traveling to Mexico created a bit of a dilemma. The warm weather and beaches were calling my name. But the giardia most certainly was not. I spent months researching:

  • Filters rated for blocking viruses

  • Bleaching water

  • Emergency drinking straws

  • UV-light water treatments

I only decided on my final setup days before driving across the border. So, how have I happily drank my tap water for two years in Mexico without ever getting sick?

Below, I’ll share the things I tried and saw others do, but I’m no expert. Follow at your own risk!
