RVing with pets is pretty common. Camping, flying, Airbnbing, and crossing the border with pets? That's where most people start scratching their heads. My cat has certainly stolen the show during a border crossing or two. It's hilarious to see previously puffed-up border agents turn into toddlers when they see the cute kitty strapped into the front seat.
Still, adventuring with pets isn't all fun and games. Pets can completely change the way you travel and where you go. Some campgrounds and Airbnbs do not allow pets. Airlines that let you fly with pets will also restrict how many they take on per flight and how your pet can travel. So, what can you do to ensure safe adventures with your furry friend?
Identify Your Travel Methods Before You Start
Don't wait until you need that last-minute flight home to figure out how to get Fido on a plane. Take some time to identify the main ways you will likely travel with your pet and plan accordingly.
Speak to your vet about the paperwork you might need for different travel methods, such as pet passports.
Determine whether there are ways to work around pet bans in the areas you want to visit.
Contact border crossings and embassies ahead of time.
Contact airlines and get detailed advice on how to fly with your pet.
Identify the Airbnbs and hotels that will allow your pet to stay and that will do so without a huge hassle.
