Last week, I shared that leveling my travel trailer is my least favorite part of RVing. Hopping in and out of the RV with a bubble level and moving the trailer to and fro and then side to side irks my soul. In my four years of full-timing, I’ve parked at only three campgrounds with perfectly level lots. For all others, even when it was a concrete pad, I had to manually level the RV.
Once you get on the road and have to do it yourself, you’ll see why I hate it. It might not be what you hate most, but it will probably be pretty high on your list. In any case, here are six tips that can help.
1. Buy an RV with an auto-leveler.
Why solve the problem if you can prevent it? If you think leveling the RV will cost you as much grief as it does me, I suggest getting an RV that does it for you. You’ll usually find this feature on motorhomes and some fifth-wheels. Travel trailers are the budget options of most mass-produced RVs, so we don’t get fancy things like this. Still, some higher-end trailer models may have the feature.
